Spectrum on GSM network

I saw this article on engadget.com and it says "global GSM / EDGE and 900 /1900 / 2100 WCDMA and HSPA capabilities".

Is it possible to use it on gsm network ? I'm trying but it says invalid sim and no settings to switch from lte/cdma to gsm

i saw a review on youtube by a guy that said the spectrum would receive an update that gave it global capabilities later in the year. Maybe that will happen when we get ICS. Not sure though.
