computer not finding SD card

So I want to add notification sounds to my LG Spectrum, I've come to understand that I need to add the sounds files to a fold /sdcard/media/audio/notifications; BUT, I can't access my SD card.

I've plugged the phone into my computer using the USB cord and I have selected mass storage and to my avail, there no storage device found on my computer. All the stuff on the SD card is no longer accessible on the phone but the SD card is no where to be found on my computer. Do I need to download a driver or root my phone or something?

Stick your phone in charge only mode. It will then show up as a USB drive. The drivers for the rest of the phone are in there. That or use this file that is straight from the phone.
