Why is the speaker so for this phone. I live the build quality but it's like LG fudged on the speaker..

Oh well I guess.. I have HiDac.

even the G4.. my wife has that, and shes like "That's the loudest your phone goes??"

I would say its serviceable... at best. I just plug in headphones though when I need clarity.
Sometimes APP makers update their apps and the volume settings get shifted, or the new APP version is not as loud as the previous version. Google maps for some reason, changed the female voice and its much quieter now too.

Never really had an issue with the speaker... the ringer is annoyingly loud when i don't have it on vibrate...

Have no complains with this speaker really. In fact, it's MUCH louder than my M8, though not as clear and oomph in the low end like Boomsound speakers. If anything, In have to complain about the vibration motor. It's not lacking though it could be more powerful. My M8 had the strongest vibration motor I've ever used on a smartphone. It's loud to the point where if I set it on a table, the vibration is basically the ringer.
