back-up & reset

I'm going to do a factory reset when my new SD card arrives. What's the best way to do a back-up and factory reset (set up as new or restore)? Do I insert the new card when I'm ready to set-up again (I've done reset but not used device after that)?

You don't need to do a factory reset to install a new card, but you can install the card before or after the reset.

Thank you, for the back-up what's the best way for that. Not sure if I'll set it up as if it was a new device or a restore. I have only a couple of apps that I would the info to remain..

I prefer to set up as new. Back up pictures to Google photos. I use SMS Backup & Restore for texts, and Google for contacts, etc.
