I am using this cd tray mount. Was 20 at my local frys. Nothing spectacular but it work and a reputable brand. I know vent mounts are popular these days too but I prefer to use my vents for heat and AC. I don't ever use my cd player.

I drive a semi, so most phone holders suck for us. Very bouncy to say the least, they tend to eject phones from holders. I've been thinking about trying the RAM brand of mounts.

This suction cup arm

And this phone holder

Would be an expensive solution, but the company is known for quality, and make the mounts for our cab computers and also known for mounts in emergency vehicles.

Picked this up at Frys today works well , phone is in a good viewing place , has a small amount of movement while driving.
Very happy for the price $20

I drive semi too and I have 2 RAM mounts. One holds a previous HTC M8 used as a dash cam and the other holds a Note 4 used as a music player. THEY ARE THE BEST MOUNTS I'VE HAD. They don't bounce, the suction cup doesn't come loose and the dash cam mount can be adjusted where the suction cup isn't in view. I'm using different length arms and different size X grips.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I looked at the X grip, but it doesn't have support on the button. Unless I'm mistaken, it only grips the side. I drive a day cab on rough roads, so I need all the help I can get. Lol

Mine has slight more movement too compared to my note 5. Must be the slimmer phone size. Go to home Depot or alike and look for some thick felt stick pads. I don't know if your mount came with extra pads, If I remeber correctly I had the impression some were supposed to come in the box but I did not get any in my box.

I drive for a living, so having a good mounts for my LG V20 and my Note smartphone is very important. Arkon makes a wide variety of quality, yet affordable mounts with even some interchangeable parts. These 2 are my favorites and are both under $25 each.

This one is best for the windshield:

This one is best for the dash (if you have a smooth enough surface to work with):
