I was talking to someone in the shower, while on speaker and a bit of water got on the screen. Not a direct hit but just some drops that are unavoidable. Apparently enough to get inside and they forced the phone into headphones mode. I had to dry the water out of the headphone jack. When I blew air into it, some water came out from under the screen.
So I don't know if my phone lost some insulation abilities due to being dropped, or it's an inherent thing. Not only is it not waterproof, it's not even splash proof and does not appear to tolerate water well at all in any quantity.

i am getting a new V20 and will compare the two and see if I encounter the same issue with the new one.

It got stuck in the headphone mode many a time.

I also had a lot of issues with _super_ slow charging. I cleaned out the headphone jack and the charging port with some electrical contacts cleaner. it seemed to return to normal.

No device is waterproof. There are different levels of Water resistantantce, but the V20 isn't water resistant at all. My advice is don't take any device into the shower even if it's water resistant because they are not designed to be used in the shower.

I've had the S8+, Samsung and it was a lot more water resistant than V20. I don't know if it can survive 6 feet in the water but it had no issues with occasional splash in the shower.

I didn't like it for other reasons - no replaceable battery, weird curved edges, weird screen ratio, poor runtime, etc. and actually upgaded from S8+ to V20.

I've noticed that at the lower part of the screen, there is a water leak right there but it could be around the entire screen. They could have done a better job. I get it that the user replaceable battery presents an issue with that but ironically it does not leak in that area.

Because the V20 is not water resistant. It wasn't designed to be water resistant, it wasn't advertised as water resistant, and trying again with a new one is almost certainly going to have the same results. Why do you keep thinking it's safe to take the V20 into the shower with you?

I was under the impression V20 had some degree of water resistance, as it turns out it has none. I saw an ad listing it as mil-spec tough, etc. I suppose it's just marketing.

Beginning with V30, it got some water resistance.

The thing I like about it V20 is it's highly shock proof, I dropped it many a time with zero consequences, not even a scratched screen (but then I use an extended battery with an aftermarket case).

It's shock proofness more than makes up for its lack of water proofness. And just as significantly, V20 is cheap. You can always replace it. How many V20 can you buy for the price of one waterproof V60?

That mil-spec rating only refers to being dropped, but you are correct that it's more a marketing gimmick than anything. When you look into the actual test parameters, it's largely subjective. For example, passing the test just means the device has to work after a drop into a carpeted surface. The definition of "working" is left up to the manufacturers, who don't release their criteria.

I don't think a single water proof electronic device exists and as already mentioned there are numerous levels of water resistance. Most water resistant devices will survive purified water at a depth of 3ft for 30 minutes. Any deeper, any longer, any current/water flow, extreme temperatures like steam, or contaminated water like from a pool will all increase the likely hood the water resistance fails.

Even than, dropping the device could knock a seal loose and cause it to fail.
