My V20 runs smooth, except for the last 3 months I've been getting terrible screen retention. It was becoming annoying and a eye sore.

I've read somewhere that someone tried using the sFilter - Blue Light Filter app from the Play store and it worked for them. So I decided to give it a try...

A big difference! For the past month I've had NO screen retention, even when using light colored wallpapers. It's been a blessing for me. So if anyone is suffering from screen retention, give it a try. It is definitely working for me.

I find the best settings for my V20 is
    Filter 5%
    Screen Dimmer 10%

My screen brightness is at 72%

Check it out if you've been having issues trying to get rid of your screen retention.

    I've tried them all.

    Screen filters
    Dimming the screen
    Max brightness
    Pixel fixing YouTube videos

So far the only thing that's worked for me is turning the screen off and giving the display a rest.

I bought a used V20 last week that had some screen retention issues. I played a YouTube video that fixes screen burn-in and the retention was gone. Look up screen retention fixer on YouTube. I went with 16:9 video.

This works. My laptop gets screen retention occasionally, due to using high brightness and a purple or blue background. The "stuck pixel fixer" videos on YouTube help get rid of it faster. Just set it on full screen, max brightness, and wait 10 minutes.

I never had those issues maybe because I set my brightness to 25%?

Yes most likely. But that sounds annoyingly dim.

I've had it happen at 0% brightness.

But don't get me wrong, I still love the phone. I'd rather this, than actual burn in, exploding batteries, fragile phones, and loss of features.

hmm if you are having IR, put your brightness on max and it will be gone faster than turning the screen off. that's what I've been doing. but preventing it from having IR? hmm I don't think there's an escape to this. tried those filters and none of em worked for me..

There is a fix, but requires rooting.

I have my doubts. This is a hardware issue.

I found this thread and seems a lot of people are having universal success, but you'll need root access and some other under the hood work done with the kernel.

    https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20...fixed-t3661631

So now I'm thinking about trying to root mine, both to try this and to under-volt the processor (for longer run times and lower heat). Does anyone know if it's possible to root the current updated version on the Verizon model? I know earlier software versions could be rooted, but the closest I've found so far is to re-flash an older version to one that can be rooted. The members on XDA sometimes don't take kindly to those new to this, so figured I'd ask here first to get me pointed in the right direction.

Also on that thread, there was talk of replacing the thermal paste to alleviate the screen retention, but it wasn't clear how well it may or may not have worked.

I only get it on Twitter! It goes away if I turn brightness up full blast on homescreen but the next trip to Twitter brings it back.
