I'm really struggling between the V30 and the Pixel 2 XL. I tried out a V30 at a Verizon store last week and came away really impressed! Tonight, I got to try out a new Pixel 2 XL at the same store and side by side, the V30 was subtly but noticeably laggier. I'm coming from a Pixel XL and I guess I've become used to how buttery smooth everything is and just expected the V30 with the 835 chipset to be just a smooth, but it's not. The Pixel 2 XL is. I'm frustrated because the hardware on the V30 is far superior to the Pixel 2 and I really love the way it feels in hand. The bezels just disappear! Conversely, the Pixel 2 XL doesn't really feel that much smaller or better than my Pixel XL, and the top and bottom bezels are still very noticeable. But Google sure has figured out how to optimize the software -everything, from opening the settings, scrolling a timeline, unlocking it, etc. is just instant! Frustratingly, I was noticing very slight stutters here and there just doing anything with the V30 and it was quite distracting. Anybody else noticing this? Anything that can be done to improve it?

Yes this is true I have the v30 and it got very laggy. Something with the software isn't right, compared to my Pixel or OP5 it's not even close in speed. Could be the AT&T bloat and maybe the unlocked version would be fine but idk. I'm going to try a hard reset tomorrow but something tells me it's LGs software.

Download lg package disabler. You can disable all the bloatware.

    Well, darnit!

I got rid of my V20 because of the stutters and lag, and was pretty excited when reviewers said that the V30 was buttery smooth even after quite a bit of use.

Right now I'm using a OnePlus 5, and outside of the camera I love this phone! Performance is definitely among the best I've seen. The camera isn't "bad" but it could be better.

I have to say, I played with both 2 XL and V30 yesterday for about an hour at a Verizon store, and did not notice any lag on the V30. I was specifically testing for that too, as I can't stand lag (returned Note 7 due to lag, before the recall). They were not next to each other, but I went back and forth few times, and couldn't tell a difference.

That's maybe not the kind of lag you're refering to, but the delay when clicking on an app icon until the app opens is actually intended. It sounds weird, I know. I've seen a video where the animations have been turned off in the developer options, and the apps did open instantly.

Part of my initial setup of any and all androids is to turn antimations off in developer options. It definitely cuts down on any perceived lag.

This is my biggest concern about upgrading to the V30 and why I just can't decide if I just should get in my knees and submit to Google. Overall, the V30 is a more complete, much better value package. Whereas, the Pixel 2 XL is overpriced by comparison. Also, I'm in the minority in that I prefer the P2XL's bezels over the V30's.

Honestly, the OP5 is back into consideration. The performance of LG phones, especially over time, has never been a strong point, and is the main driving force behind me feeling compelled to upgrade every single year. The phone I was most happy with recently is the LG and I had and used that phone up until a few months before I got the V20. I only stopped using it because it stopped reading SIM cards, but that phone, since it was running Cyanogen, performed way better than my stock G4 did

Visually, LG's software isn't that much different than stock, but under the hood it must be since the responsive of LG phones seems to always suffer compared to those closer to stock.

I really love the wide angle lens, I'd love to have wireless charging again, and I've always appreciated the tweaks LG incorporates (especially knock on, clip tray, and mini view), but I want a phone fast enough that I'm not going to want to get rid of it after a year. Plus, LG has terrible support. Their idea of helping you is leaving you without a phone for two weeks any time something happens to your phone.

I've had mine since Monday and it's all loaded up with my apps. The first couple of days it seemed a bit laggy, but since then, it's been flying. No lag whatsoever. Break it in.

I can confirm this. This is also part of my initial setup. So is installing an exorbitant amount of apps. This phone is exceptionally quick. Unfortunately, excessive lag may be indicative of a defective device.

In the bezel argument, I think you're less of a minority than you think. I think they're just less vocal because it seems like you're taking shots at Samsung (bait for the fanboys to show up). I'm coming from the SGS7 Edge. It's a good looking phone. However, I despised holding it without a case on it. LG's version of this design seems right. Samsung's curved edges ruined the experience for me. I've encountered multiple others with the same opinion.

I've always had a hunch LG slows down the processor to conserve battery, particularly on the V20 with the battery hogging LCD and always on 2nd screen. Are there any tests out there that measure the processor speeds?

I was comparing the same two phones yesterday and I couldn't agree more. The V30 just looks & feels better. It's a shame, because on paper, I should be getting the pixel 2 XL.

I have the SGS7 edge too, and you just can't use it without a case. I absolutely hate the curved edges. I can't wait to replace it. Most likely with the V30.

I don't know, man. I get pretty terrible battery on the V20. I'd happily slow for processor to save power.

Same here with T-Mobile model, not the smoothest phone I have used recently. Just because of this I can't wait for my Pixel 2 XL to arrive. I think I will return it to TMobile early next week.

Thank you for the tip about the animations! That was the one thing that really bothered me about the V30, coming from the Note 8. The phone felt like it took half a second to open apps and transition. I set the animations to .5 and now it flies!

Reducing the Animation settings under Developer settings helped remove the shutter on my phone too however its still there. My iPhone never had any lag issues. This is the one negative work flow with this phone. It should be noted the shutter is only on web browsers.

It's funny that you say that because I changed my anamitions on my note 8 because I felt it was slow compared to my axon 7

Like not saying that it's slow but just personal opinion it seems like the slow down the animation to make it seems like it smoother like when I out the animations to 0.5 on my note that's how fast my axon moves period I see it mostly with the recent apps and when in hitting the recent app button to go back and fourth that's when I mostly see it ... You just made me concerned about the v30 not because I ordered it yesterday ... Want to give a chance because of the camera and I'm not really a Hugh fan of the note beaing tall tbh still great phone but I will see... If I don't like the v30 I'll look in to one of those Pixter clip ons and hope it works with the dual camera on the note 8
