Did a quick comparison and the V20 looked better. Also noticed the V20 had a wider point of view on the wide angle mode than the V30. The G6 looked the worse out of them all. Any reason why they downgraded the front camera? Not like the front camera was anything spectacular, just a little more disappointed it looked worse than the older phone.

That's sucks... I remember the G4 was pretty good, then I got the V10 and it was all down hill from there.

It isn't terrible outdoors. Not great by any means, but passable. I don't use the FFC much at all though, so not a huge deal. Unless you're taking selfies every day or Skyping a ton, not sure the FFC should be a deal breaker.

Question was why did they downgrade? Could've at least use the same old camera. The V20 doesn't have an amazing front camera but it did a pretty decent job, especially with the ultra wide angle front. I'm guessing people didn't like the front to be that wide.

Probably more software related than anything, so the term 'downgrade' is subjective.

It does appear to be downgraded or at least changed for the worse. The 120 degrees was great.
    From LG website:
    V20: 120 degree wide, 83 degree narrow. f/1.9 aperture
    V30: 90 degree wide, 80 degree narrow. f/2.2 aperture

You have to also consider that it's a different form factor. Fitting in the same camera wouldn't make any sense. The screen to body ratio is very high (83.24%) with a brand new OLED screen. The V20 & V10 are more similar. For the V30, there's not much room above the screen to work with.

I found the V30 FFC more than adequate, however I'm not much of selfie taker so not a deal breaker for me either.

I was able to get better results taking off "HDR Auto" and either keeping it on or off. There was a thread with some other setting changes that improved the FFC ... Seems good enough for me now, it's still better than my last phones FFC

I've had the G3, G4, V10, V20 and now V30. The G4 had the best FFC of them all, hands down. Quality and resolution were higher and it shot much better indoors. Not sure Why they wouldnt just continue to use the same part and why they thought dropping to 5mp from 8 was a good idea.

It is a shame that they didn't do a better job with the FfC. I don't use it that often, so it doesn't bother me to much, but it would have been one less thing for people to complain about.

I don't have any issue with the front camera. I also don't out photos side by side just so I can scrutinize them. Even if I did, I never had any reason to dislike a single front facing photo I've taken on the V30 and nothing I've taken makes me think the V20 was ever better.

I don't want to be 'that guy' that comes in.... But the FFC on the V30 is garbage. It's not just that it had a lower resolution than the competition, any pic I took looked like something from a 6 year old phone.

It's my biggest 'huh?' on that phone. I can see why they made the decisions they made everywhere else... But why completely mail it in? In an ever increasingly self absorbed society head over heels about taking pictures of themselves, everyone's putting a ton of effort into making that front camera a top line feature.

...And LG puts in something that would have a hard time beating a flip phone from 2012. And on a phone that LG themselves say was targeting the content creators.

This is why I reluctantly moved to Samsung. My G4 seemed to have the best camera, V20 was ok but V30 is rubbish. Such a shame as apart from that it's pretty awesome, I miss the wide angle but not the FFC and slow shutter speeds.

I'm a broken record but I'd kill to have the G4 camera in my V30 even today. Never have been able to get the quality I got with the G4 in any of the later G or V incarnations.

You guys do mean the FFC? I agree LG really dropped the ball on that, but feel that the V30's rear camera and wide angle lens, stack up very well against the competition, and are much better than the G4's rear camera.

The processing leaves something to be desired and shooting in manual doesn't cure everything.

Without a doubt in ideal conditions it can take some amazing shots. Lowlight was a bit of a drag for me. Dynamic range isn't the greatest either.

Low light is much better than the G5 that I had before this. I really looked into camera reviews before buying the V30, and found that they all seem pretty equal, until u get to the pixel. That phone seems to be better than them all. The S9 seems to have a lot of post processing problems as well. Subjects look blurry. I do see some of that with the V30, but not as bad in my opinion. Pics on the pixel just look clearer than the other phones. I would have went with a pixel, but I need wifi calling on AT&T, and can only get that with a carrier branded phone. In the end though, I'm very happy with the V30 camera. And as a bonus, the battery life on this phone is fantastic.

Download the Pixel camera ports and you can get better photos in auto. There are two....one for the normal camera and one for the wide angle.

it's really strange. the V series line is supposed to be a media powerhouse yet they purposefully go cheap on the FFC.

i personally don't take a bunch of selfies but there are a lot of content creators who Vlog and this camera is a non-starter.

That front camera still is embarrassing. The V10 had the best, they promoted it like crazy. Had 2 lens, regular and wide. Was super wide too. Every year, they keep narrowing the wide angle bit by bit. I hate selfies, but the V10 was like having someone hold the camera in front of you and could really get the background landscape or multiple people.
