I recently purchased a DDup USB C to HDMI Cable to use with my LG V30 and Vizio M series TV. I can occasionally get the phone screen mirrored on the TV but usually I get alternating "connected/disconnected from secondary screen" messages flashing on the bottom of my phone with no image on the TV. When I do have screen mirroring, it goes black the second I open an app on my phone such as Netflix.

Any suggestions I can try or things I might be doing wrong? Any settings on the phone I need to have properly configured for USB to HDMI?

    Thanks for the help

Sounds like more of an issue with the adapter you got. Do you have any other USB-C devices you could try it on (DO NOT TRY ON A SWITCH!!!!!)? Also, some apps restrict HDMI output, but I don't think Netflix is one of them (DTVN did with the 2.0 version but it was quickly updated to re-enable HDMI output). Since your TV supports it, does wireless mirroring work? (Trying to debug if maybe the mirroring is somehow broken overall in your phone).

    Thanks for the suggestions!

Wireless mirroring works but I'm in an area for the summer where I don't have wifi available. I can tether my phone and TV to a 3rd device but then am capped at 10gb per month.

I don't have another USB C device on hand but will test on a friend's phone this week.

I'm wondering if it could also be an issue with my phone's USB C port. When charging, I sometimes get a "charging slowly" error; I have to flip the USB C cord a particular side up to get fast charging working.

Ah, yeah, that could also be a problem (or, if it started after you first tried the adapter, it might have been damaged by it, too). I have an adapter that works but also needs to be inserted a certain way or it will wiggle enough to disconnect randomly (but that's the adapter's construction being spotty, since it does the same on all my devices). Also check the power being connected to the adapter; if it loses power or isn't drawing enough charge the signal is likely to suffer.

Just buy a Chromecast and cast the screen wirelessly (you can also do it with the Amazon Fire TV). For screen mirroring you download the Google Home app. Google actually fixed some of the delay issues so you can play games in real time, better than before. Then you can either get a USB C to USB adapter and attach a keyboard/mouse or use a bluetooth keyboard/mouse and use your phone like a computer. 3rd party accessories sometimes just doesn't work especially if it came from China and there's incompatibility issues with the USB to HDMI... the developers don't want to work on that anymore and it's considered old school and is unsupported... wireless casting seems like the way to go. Samsung removed the MHL feature a long time ago.
