Hello all. I'm thinking of purchasing an Lg v30 (verizon) and was looking for experienced users to help me in my decision.

What did you upgrade from to the V30? What was the biggest factor in choosing the V30?

Battery life: How is it on a full days use? Average SOT?

How is the in call quality?

Does it have mini view like the v10? How hard is it to use one handed?

Does it have MHL Hdmi compatibility?

    Any problems?

    Thanks in advance guys.

S4 to Note Edge to V10 to V20 to V30

Mad about the lack of IR blaster and removable battery but I wanted the receiver as mic feature since I go to many loud music events and wanted the video to be clear sounding without distortion. Wide angle cameras were also a must. IP rating is a decent consolation for lack of removable battery.

Battery life: How is it on a full days use? Average SOT?

I kill my battery too quickly cause I'm always on it but I could make it through a day if necessary. I haven't checked my screen time.

How is the in call quality?

V10 and V20 had this weird issue where when I am lying down with the phone the other person can't hear me. The V30 doesn't have this issue.

Does it have mini view like the v10? How hard is it to use one handed?

Depends on the size of your hand but it's smaller than V10 and V20 so it's easier than those one handed. No second screen but it does have that floating bar that I don't use because it does not have recent apps which is my main use of second screen.

Does it have MHL Hdmi compatibility?

Yes you can output video to a TV using a cable. V40 dropped this feature.

    Any problems?

My V30 is out for repair / replacement because the screen had discoloration when the phone got warm, around 35 degrees C and up. I am using my old V20 with a fresh factory reset and this thing is so slow. I can't wait for my V30 to come back. Thankful for the 2 year warranty.

Although much faster than the V20 I still get stutters during video recording sometimes. Keeping the device cool helps.

I hate the headphone jack on top. Wires coming out of both damn ends when charging and listening with wired headphones.

FFC really stinks. Use the rear even for selfies whenever possible.

I noticed that my V30 was connecting to AT&T 5G networks so that was nice although performance did not seem to differ.

Back glass scratches rather easily. I take care of my stuff and don't slide it on hard surfaces but still managed to get some scratches on the bottom back.

I got my fiancée a V40 and I love that phone. But that phone doesn't let you switch to or from wide angle camera during video recording. And they put the headphone jack back on the bottom. Her G6 was lagging so it was time for an upgrade. I'm happy to wait for the V50.

Galaxy S7 Edge. The V30 is so much better than the Samsung it replaced. Screen to body ratio and wide angle camera.

Battery life: How is it on a full days use? Average SOT?
The battery is amazing. I regularly get 2 days with 3-5 hours screen time. I currently sit at 26% used in 23.5 hours with 1 hour screen time. I have gotten 7 hours in a day, but rarely use my phone that much in a 24 hour period.

How is the in call quality?
    No issues with call quality.

Does it have mini view like the v10? How hard is it to use one handed?
I've never looked into a mini view, that might say something about how hard it is to use 1 handed.

Does it have MHL Hdmi compatibility?
    Don't know.

    Any problems?
None. Unless not being able to find a new phone good enough to make me upgrade is a problem.

I upgraded from the LG G4, which eventually bootlooped on me after 2.4 years.
I chose the V30 for the DAC sound system, external SD card, LG's version of android, headphone jack.

Battery life: How is it on a full days use? Average SOT?
Battery life is great. I can go all day when using apps with text and pictures. Videos eat into the SOT, but that is to be expected with the large, beautiful screen.

How is the in call quality?
Sounds great to me, even at my house with poor signal quality. Wifi calling is great, too.

The user guide says the V30 has this feature, but I have never tried it.

Does it have MHL Hdmi compatibility?
    Have not tried this.

    Any problems?
None come to mind. My carrier (ATT) does an OK job with the periodic OS updates.

I had issues on AT&T with signal strength. I would drop calls in areas where I wouldn't normally, and my wife didn't seem to have problems with her S9+. I switched to the S9+, and found it to be much better. In my research it seemed to be more of a problem on AT&T's network. Most others signal strength seemed to be fine.
I will say that I liked my V30 experience better than the S9+. I like LG's skin over Samsungs mess any day, but in the end, dropping calls was what made me switch.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I'm looking for a replacement for an HTC 10 that is on its last leg.

Has anyone tested this phone and how it handles water?

I've used it underwater a few times even though it's not meant for that. Just make sure to rinse it in fresh tap water if you get it wet in a pool or salt water to prevent corrosion of the charging port.

I have had my V30 for well over a year. No problems.
For call quality, that will always depend on your service provider and where you live.
My battery life is very good for my routine.
Try not to get my phone wet, fortunately I live in the desert.
I have no bad thing to say about LG or the V series (having owned the 10 &20).

I came to my V30 from the HTC 10, and hardly looked back. The sound is similar though a bit more neutral on V30, vs more gain on the 10 (comparing 1/8" output only). The screen is big and beautiful. Going back to the 10 after I crushed my 1st V30 (glass + metal = not very durable), I felt the screen was cramped on the HTC. The lack of bezels, notch or chin I still feel is unbeatable compared to anything past or recent. I admit using it one handed can be tricky sometimes unless you have large hands.

I get excellent battery life at work, finishing off 14 hour days around 30% with moderate use including some video. Battery life at home is worse, probably because I'm on it a lot more. WiFi is incredibly fast, but I only use it when I'm connecting to another device. Otherwise T-Mobile flies here in Chicago.

After I crushed my original, I found a V30+ locally and have been even happier with it than the V30. The widescreen camera is a must-have once you use it. Get it, then put it in a good TPU case. Then I recommend you not drop it off a street curb and run over it on a heavy bicycle! Btw the original V30, torqued, twisted and both sides shattered, still works via HDMI & OTG.
