been using v30 for a month now, I've noticed sometimes the headphone gets noticeably louder (which to me sounds very good) when on charge but it seems to be quite random so I'm not sure what's causing it, could it be DAC deploying different setting for impedance? it does occur from time to time and stays that way (meaning until you unplug the cable) and is very noticeable, it happens on both the stock earpod, DT770 pro (80 ohm) and ath-m20x, has anyone had this issue?

ps I'm on Pie everything is stock no root whatsoever

anyone? I've done more tests and been able to reproduce it on ATH-M20 every time, seems you have to charge it in order for the hifi dac really kicking in, it works on wireless charging as well, I can hardly believe i'm the only one who has this issue, its a brand new phone not second hand or refurbished.

Maybe it kicks in with certain apps or music files you listening to ?

How are you charging it and listening? If you are using an adapter that allows to charge and listen at the same time it may bumping up the resistance. You should be able to see it in the hifi settings. I can't explain why it would do that with wireless though.

for normal charging I just plug it into my pc's usb port, so that's without an adapter, I fiddled around in hifi setting while charging but didn't see anything about resistance, which option were you referring?

Oh wait! The V30 still has a normal jack. I forgot about that. I was thinking you were listening through the USB C port with an adapter. In your phone settings there should be a place for the hifi sound. I'll take a look at my LG V20 which is similar to see where the setting is. The power source should not have an affect though on the DAC output though.

its becoming a problem because I have to charge it first to enjoy the dac otherwise I'll have to crank the volume way up (while the hifi icon still shows), let me give you an idea how 'bad' this problem is, you plug in your headphone, the hifi icon pops up but the volume is low, then I charge it either via cable or wireless, quit the app then start it again, the 'hifi' volume would be working right after that. at this point I'm still not sure whether its a feature or not (a feature to drain less battery while not on charge)?

I might be able to help with a work-around.

I use two different headphones depending on where I am.
My big expensive set is of high enough resistance that it puts the V30 into a high enough output mode to make the headphones load enough.

The cheap ones I have use enough resistance to dull the volume but not high enough resistance to have the phone push out enough power. To fix this I got a 4-inch extension cable and an 75-80 ohm adaptor. In this order:
plug the headphones to the adaptor,
plug the adaptor to the extension,
Pug in the extension to the phone.
(this creates enough resistance to bump up the power output)
Leaving the extension plugged into the phone,
remove the high-resistance adaptor from the chain.

The 4-inch extension and the high resistance adaptor are available on amazon.com

To the best of my knowledge the volume should remain the same while charging.

yeah I thought so, and it's so noticeable, its not some subtle difference, its day and night, I'm on Pie which doesn't have any extra settings for dac, you plug in the can, the hifi icon pops up you can choose turn the dac on the off but that's about it, I have no knowledge of whether it worked on previous version as I updated it right after I bought it.

Yeah I don't recall that happening when I had the V30. The V20 definitely doesnt do it. If you bought it new and if it's still in warranty I would have LG check it or if you bought it from a carrier they might be able help. I don't recall if the V30 was a one or two year warranty. Another thing you could try even though its tedious is a factory reset. That actually cleared up an audio problem I had with the V20 where one channel was very weak. Also try running it in safe mode. If it doesnt happen in safe mode it may be a third party app reaking havoc.
