Is it possible to view the marketplace apps (all of them) w/o a handset? Debating on whether or not to buy, but need to know what's out there.

There is nothing official from Android but there are sites out there you can view. Google Android apps and you will find a bunch of them.

AppBrain is the one I use the most, but there are a few more out there.

One would think Android would create one on their own, a lot of people are always looking to view what the market has to offer.

well actually there is an official android marketplace website:

    Android Market

the problem is that it's VERY limited and seems to list only a few hundred of the most popular apps for paid and free

That one is half-***ed in my opinion. He was probably referring to a real one that contains all the apps with reviews and such (like iTunes) through Google.
