You write that Apple charges a premium. Agreed. So does Samsung for the Note tablets. If I paid the same amount for an iPad as I did for my note, I'd likely get 2-3 updates from Apple during the product's lifetime. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect at least one (and maybe two) updates...
