Poll: how did your Note 4 die? Is it still working?

Amazon is easiest, there are plenty.

Poll: how did your Note 4 die? Is it still working?

Arrived July 2015, still going strong. I replaced the battery with an Anker one from Amazon as the original was dying a bit quickly. Note 4 is rooted and currently running Android 7.1.2 (LineageOS) I got an S8 a year ago but TBH I prefer the Note 4 with its near- Stock Android install, its so...

Root or not. Verizon note 4 Android 5.1.1

I cannot speak about the Verizon-specific aspects of this as I'm in the UK. My Note 4 was locked to a UK carrier - EE. I found the Samsung/Touchwiz experience underwhelming and slow and when the device warranty was nearly done, took the plunge, rooted the device and installed LineageOS, which...

Samsung Note 4 Warning Your phone does not have CSC Version

Dial *#1234# on the phone and see what the value next to CSC says. That should offer a clue. (You need a working SIM installed though). CSC is the region code.

Anyone else still planning on keeping their Note 4 awhile longer?

Having now replaced the Note 4 battery with an Anker one, battery life on my Note 4 is as good, or better, than the S8. I also prefer the slightly wider screen format to the slimmer S8. As said before, if you can manage without the Note 4 Pen, except as a stylus pointer, then I must recommend...

Anyone else still planning on keeping their Note 4 awhile longer?

Mine's rooted and running Android 7.1.2 AKA LineageOS. If you can do without the Pen, it runs like a champ. I also have an S8, to which the rooted Note 4 compares very favourably for performance.

When the new iPhone launches, what will you do?

Re: When the new iPhone releases, what will you do, I'll point and laugh at the iOS 11 Control Center. Because it looks like the Windows 8 Start screen...

    Swapped back to iPhone 7+

If the next iPhone is just more of the same, yes. And if the info on iOS11 is accurate, it still looks as dull as ever.

    Swapped back to iPhone 7+

I did not like TouchWiz much on my Note 4, to the extent that I rooted it and put stock Android 7 on it. That was just soooo much smoother. The good news here is that the new TW interface on the S8 is IMO not just better than the old TouchWiz, it is on another planet. I like it more than...

    Post your S8 reviews here!

Odd behaviour there...I agree Bixby is a pain in the a** but I have had no problem with any of the recognition methods you describe. I also don't agree that "all other Samsung software is crapware". The stock Samsung software on my old Note 4 (TouchWiz, Email, Messaging, Phone etc) was fairly...

    S8 / S8+ First Impressions Thread

Having had the S8 for a couple of days, so far so good. I've come from a Note 4 running Rooted Android 7.1.1, and the S8 so far is as slick and responsive as that was (unlike Touchwiz on the Note 4 which was sloooooow). There are so many features on the S8 its a bit mind boggling, e.g...

Note 4 - Ahead of its Time

I can't give you the files, sorry. Everything you need is easy to find and download, but start by watching a few YouTube videos on the subject. Its not an 'upgrade' to 7.1.1. You have to be comfortable with wiping your device, installing a new boot manager and installing the new OS from there.

Note 4 - Ahead of its Time

I'll just say it again, if you have a Note 4, and you can root it and put Android 7x on it (for example Cyanogenmod), then the already decent performance becomes even better. The Note 4 is capable of running like butter.

Real-world Note 4 owners, worth the money?

Its now a steal, and performance-wise it stacks up very well for a 2 year old device.
