Yep, only way to fix this is to remove your Google account, then add it again. Contacts will take some time to display correctly.

According to the HTC Inspire PDF manual indicator should appear if "Wi-Fi is on and wireless networks are available". This means that even if I am not connected, the indicator should appear (otherwise how would I know if WiFi is succesfully turned on?).
