    Yikes. This has worked fine for me on all my previous android phones including my last Note 4. I thought it was a no-brainer function but maybe I'm wrong.

    I figured it out. It is by design and backwards from what I was trying to do. Rather than turn off all notifications and select on the ones you want, you have to turn on all notifications and turn OFF the ones you don't.
