If you recently updated to the latest version of your phone (lollipop perhaps) you are going to want to back up your data and do a factory reset. I found that after the lollipop update my battery life was suffering, but after a a factory reset my battery life and overall performance increased.

"Textra" is the messenger app to get.

Also could be an app running in the back ground, weather app maybe.

My Note gives me a consistent 3 bars of 4G Lte in the downstairs of my house, where previous Verizon phones have presented no service. Overall I am very impressed with the Note 4's signal strength on Verizon.
