FWIW, I used to see a lot of this when I had LG Voice enabled. It went away as soon as I turned it off (and my battery improved a pretty good bit along with it). Obviously, YMMV.

It's pretty much just the way the phone is designed. You can either root or toggle mobile data off completely.

It looks like the Chromecast icon. Is it really showing up in the center like that, though? It should be in the upper right corner, and only when NOT in full-screen mode. I have never seen it in the center.

T-Mobile's wifi calling feature actually supports texting over wifi as well (or at least it has for every phone that I've used it with). I do not believe that it will be available on the N5, though I don't know that for sure.

You've probably already done this, but I'd suggest a full reboot. I've heard of that fixing GPS issues in the past. Toggling GPS on/off can help on some phones as well. For me, the GPS performance has been better than my past phones (so far). I haven't had any similar issues with Pandora.

I have seen a few threads about people having issues with this. So far, I have had no issues at all with my VZW G2. It has actually worked better than my previous Android devices.
