I can confirm that clearing the cache through the settings -> App manager does the trick. While driving across the country I had cached maps for wilderness areas where I knew there would be no service resulting in the maps cache growing to about 300mb. Its back to zero now. I really dont get...

I cant seem to find the original verizon download anywhere on my sdcard nor online. Am I just being a noob?

I have tried following the instructions and it did not work for me. I read somewhere (sorry dont remember link) that the method works as long as you DONT accept the new update. Some people have said they lost root in then later applying the update.
