I had the same problem, but found that it was because of the security involved in having an exchange type account setup. I switched to the Outlook app, which apparently doesn't require lock screen security. Hope this helps.

If you're using a third party voice dialer with KitKat, like Klets (what I use), I have found that you can uninstall updates to Google Search and disable automatic updates for said app. This will then allow you to choose which application loads upon long-pressing the bluetooth button. Sad...
