I can assure you that's not a norm. I've had the best battery life ever since I've updated to nougat. Not much else I can say. It's always been like this with Samsung. Some people get poor battery life some get amazing battery life. Using the Exynos version.

You can check out whatsapp plus. It's a whatsapp client on steroids. Maybe you'll find this feature in that app. It works and looks just like the whatsapp app. But it has so many extra features too.

You can go into lock screen settings and select do not show content.

If you just want to tweak your text messages notifications you can do that by downloading a third party messaging app like Textra. Whatsapp and messenger let you hide preview through the app. What other messages do you want to hide?

Screen shots attached. Today was a medium use day I'd say. Mostly YouTube and browsing through social. All on WiFi though. I get usually around 5 hours when running mobile data. And this is on high performance mode. Check apps. Use device maintainable app.

I've gotten the best battery life ever on any phone. Easily 6 hours. 7.5 if I use a little lightly. Not exaggerating. Unlocked exynos as well. Maybe it's an app which is causing the drain. Check settings.
