That's a good point regarding awareness. However, when it comes to giving kids a phone, I think Android is a far better option since there is a large variety of handsets across different price ranges. Even the cheapest phone can still make all the popular games that appeal to young children.

Also take a look at Kytephone, free download from the Play store. It creates a sandbox on the phone or tablet and you can enable only specific apps your kids can use as well as set time limits on those games.

The speed capability doesn't matter so much for you as it does for the carrier. Chances are, there will be other HSPA users sharing the cell tower with you, so you'll never be able to take advantage of the max speed. I wouldn't worry about it. //from a former HSPA Engineer
