I found some posts which said it did work initially, but then later it stops working. I'm on vzw/KitKat 4. 4. 4 and it works great via FoxFi. If you can downgrade to 4.4.4, that would be your best option for unrooted tethering.

I tried to install but after it downloaded, it kept powering down. I would restart it then it came up for a minute and powered down again. It did this about three times. Then it went into a CWM recovery looking screen but all it gave as options were to install or not install an "untrusted...

They've abandoned the app. There hasn't been an update since 22 June 2013 so I would only use the free version and not buy an app that is not going to be updated. BTW, it doesn't seem to do anything on my Kit Kat Razr Maxx HD phone either. So it may not work on your KK device as well.

You can disable the "Update" app.
