Yes, you will get a performance boost by using it. (Mileage may vary) Though, for my own use, it's running just peachy without any custom kernel for now.

Interesting... I'm running the same rom as you (minus mods) but I didn't have an audio issue... Granted, I didn't do whole lot of audio during my quick test... What apps were you doing audio through? And what settings in the HDMI app were you using?

Yeah the service can be a bit touchy here and there still. Have you tried one of the customized kernels to see if the audio issue is affected? I haven't tinkered too much with them yet, but I know it plays a bit nicer when it has it's proper hardware backing, and the kernel offers some audio...
