    DVD Ripping/Playing

The only converter that has worked consistently for me with the Nook Color is Handbrake. Use the "iPod Legacy" preset, and in the audio tab choose "stereo" for the mixdown option. The resulting file is an mp4 usually about 1GB in size that plays perfectly in the stock Nook player or any other.

    strange behavior

If it is EM interference, you could always build a Faraday cage around your bed to block it out. As long as you aren't married, it shouldn't be much trouble to surround your bed with a wire mesh screen, and Lowes or Home Depot should have everything you need. Sure, it makes you seem like a...

    Replacement Charging and/or data cable?

I have also experienced issues connecting to a laptop that aren't there when connecting to a desktop - screen flickers, nook connects/disconnects sporadically for a few minutes until it finally settles down, can debug but cant mount the nook, etc. It appears to me that when a full charge is not...

Best/Most Stable OS Version and Configuration?

I voted for rooted stock as well. Very stable, and until HC is fully functional (ie stable with a useful and dependable bluetooth range) I'll play with the other builds off SD, but not install them internally. However, I'll be damned if I can get the movie player to actually play anything on...

[How-to][NEW VERSION] Run Nookie Froyo off SD card

I had the same problem, and have determined that adb doesn't like long directory paths. Move the "system" folder from C:\Android SDK\android-sdk-windows\tools\system to C:\system Then do the push like this: adb push c:\system system/ Then adb reboot, and you are golden! You can delete the...

Nookie Froyo 16GB SD FC Issues

The Nook color user guide states that it supports Class 6 cards. I for one think that they meant exactly what they said - "Class 6" - NOT "Class 6 and above"...

    RockPLayer, Internal Nook Memory

In the rock player go to settings. The set the home directory to "/". Once you've done that the internal file system becomes available to you.

Max SD size is 16 Gb

NC will take a 32G microSDHC, but Class 6 32G cards are thin on the ground and quite expensive.

what to install for best functionality RIGHT NOW?

I believe that would be the one. As to why you might want to run a different OS for yourself... it basically comes down to your preference for user interface and your tolerance for ambiguity/frustration in using a less stable platform. I like to tinker, so I've got a bunch of different cards...

what to install for best functionality RIGHT NOW?

For me, rooting the stock seems like the way to go when considering using the device with a toddler on a trip away. This gives you the flexibility to run additional aps with pretty much hassle free operation. I have a toddler myself, and can't imagine him responding well to me saying...
