    Newsweek: smartphones near obsolescence

I'd argue that smartphones are there. They connect you to the world. They are inherently limited by physical space. There's a sweet spot that balances portability and usability. We're there. 5" is a great spot. 6" is pushing the upper limit of portability. While it would be great to be able to...

Is the corner-cutting this time around too much for you?

From EverDock, regarding USB-C And that "very small percentage" comment is why we won't see a lot of docks available.

Is the corner-cutting this time around too much for you?

That is highly dependent on usage pattern. I usually get a full day on my N5 and charge overnight. So whether it charges back in 1 or 5 hours does not really matter. offering an upright dock would have gone a long way to quiet the complaints.

Is the corner-cutting this time around too much for you?

But the N4 had a standard USB port you could use. Qi was just an added bonus. Seeing as the target audience for the N5X is largely current N4 and N5 owners, they have removed a feature we have come to use AND combined with a non-standard connector.

Is the corner-cutting this time around too much for you?

Not likely until we see a lot more dockable devices using it. I think it's a fail on Google's part to not offer a dock. If you are going to deviate from standard that much, make sure it's properly supported.

Is the corner-cutting this time around too much for you?

I use my phone as my bed side clock and alarm. I use a Forrader Qi charger that stands the phone almost upright. Hard to do with a charging cord at the bottom. Plus it's one less lose cord to fall behind furniture.

What do you guys think of Android Pay?

I think it would make more of n impact if they had gotten non-American banks on board. NFC payment is an accepted standard in Canada and Europe. Same with Apple Pay. My son lives in SF and has an iPhone6. He is very limited in it's use of ApplePay in the US, but can use it everywhere in Canada.

Choosing the Nexus 5X over the Nexus 6P

Re: Why did you buy or why are you considering the 5X over the 6P? I hear a lot of that "Qi charging isn't fast enough" comment. It depends on use case. With my usage, I rarely need to charge during the day. I have a Forrader Qi charger, phone sits almost upright so I can see the clock on my...
