UPDATE: A few hours later the dead spot reappeared. Tried the same sequence (hidden menu --> HW Device Test --> Touch Test --> Finger Pain), but it did not fix the issue as it appeared to do previously. Plugged the phone in for an hour, and it was working again. Still working as of this...

I'm shocked, but it seemed to have worked. Not sure how long it will stick. I did the finger paint test in the touch screen section. After drawing lines up and down for roughly a minute (screen filled with green lines except for the dead zone bar roughly an inch below the top of the screen)...
