Is a stock ROM the same thing as a firmware? Meaning it will completely reset my phone to its original state and I will have to reroot it to get root access? Why can't I restore S Planner without the .odex files?

I deleted the S Planner app files with a root browser because I thought I didn't need that app. I am using Google Calendar. After I deleted them I noticed that Google Calendar was not working anymore. I guess it somehow depends on S Planner... Anyway, I did back up the S Planner .apk files...

Yeah I did try that app but it doesn't appear to be doing anything on my phone. I guess I just have to get used to this weird "feature" of Android. What the developers were thinking is beyond me though...
