Old thread, but helpful to me with my new S4. In order to find the Backup Assistance Plus app and the Sync Service I had to go to Settings, More, Storage, then tap Applications. Hit the ALL tab up top (or RUNNING if it's currently running) to find the two programs to disable.

Aargh! I suddenly noticed that I am unable to click through hyperlinks in email using k9 mail. Even old mail that was clickable before is no longer clickable. Time to search for yet another email app. :-(
