I called TMO and they said they would send an OTA update but I havent gotten it yet - why is it so difficult to update the MyTouch 4g?

so i thought i figured it out but was mistaken. when i go to settings>about phone>software it says Android 2.2 I had put a zip file that i found to be the update, booted in h-boot and installed it but it still says im on 2.2 any suggestions? Thanks!!
