Without the phone in hand, I can't test that the rooting of it will produce the result I'm looking for (though I have been looking around and saw a root based app that seems to work for most). I'll keep this in mind. :)

I'll have to agree with this one... Last time I checked it was $30/month for a plan on top of the $30/month I have for unlimited.

As I don't plan to update very often, if at all, I think that that might be a good option. You can confirm that it's a true wifi hotspot app? EDIT: I got ahold of my moms phone that runs 4.4.3. Looks like Motorola broke the hotspot option with 4.4. Unless there's a way to downgrade the OS that...

But what I was asking was if there's one where it can be used with an unlimited plan and still broadcast a signal. The native tether nags you to sign up for a plan, and is utterly useless on that plan without a tweak to override it.

At our house we have two phones, a jailbroken iPhone (that has a tweak that unlocks the native mobile hotspot) and a Razr Maxx HD equipped with Easy Tether. Both have unlimited data. I'm thinking about upgrading my iPhone to the Turbo and can't seem to find a definitive answer on a true hotspot...
