With more research I find that when I allow the watch to autostart a workout I can't stop it manually. If I want to pause or stop it with the back button I can only do that if I started the workout manually.

UPDATE: PROBLEM RESOLVED: if you click enough buttons things become clear. In messages, I must have been on an email address when I tried this because when I click on the crossed out microphone it says, "not supported for email addresses." So when I try to start a text using a mobile number...

I just got a 2016 Civic EX-T and it works with my Galaxy S7. I should mention, did you make sure to set the USB on the phone to use the right protocol? I.e, not charging but MTP.
