Sounds like a new battery may help. I'd also definitely go to a custom ROM. Some are more light weight. And be sure to clear out your cache and data in the process. A fresh start definitely couldn't hurt. I don't actively use my Thunderbolt anymore so I can't help with specifics. Mine stills...

Sorry I can't help here. I haven't put a custom ROM on this phone yet. Unfortunately, with encryption there probably isn't much chance of recovery when things go wrong. At least I would almost hope you can't recover encrypted files since that is kind of the point. Sorry for your trouble though...
