Can you update us as to which direction you took? New 7X, repair, or a different phone? Hope it all worked out okay for you. I agree with others that for relatively inexpensive devices - just use the opportunity to buy a new one or upgrade to a newer model.

Has to be a notification of some sort. I've experienced the same thing. Most likely a default notification on a particular app, such as your email app. I just had to dig around a bit in the settings of the likely culprit apps until I was able to find it and shut it off.

Strange. I don't have this issue. For every new app I download, a shortcut is plopped down on my main homescreen - unless there is no room (you might double check if there is space available). I've looked for any settings that might cause this to be different, but couldn't find anything...
