How do they know my N5 isn't from the Google Play store? Can I get around this?

No, I just ran the IMEI through their BYOD page. It said this when I entered the IMEI: Also their info says It seems that Nexus 5 is the exception to the above rule, since it says that you can buy it from the Google Play store and it doesn't have to have been a sprint phone. Yet it...

How do they know my N5 isn't from the Google Play store? Can I get around this?

Well this is a Bring Your Own Device plan anyway--none of the carriers are making money, I bought it used. Also, I think that Sprint loses money on the Nexus 5, that's part of why they have to sell it for more than the price in the Google Play store. And also, they allow you to use phones bought...

Just replaced the screen assembly, but it's still black

Mine had been originally from T-Mobile. I'm really wishing I had bought it from Google Play now. I came here before I bought and people were saying there's no difference in the phones, but I didn't think about the customer experience of Google being different.

Yah, must be. But I don't know why they would just globally ban all IMEIs from any phone except from Sprint or Google. Why limit your customers like that? It's certainly not winning them or Sprint any good will.

What does the "sad drums" notification mean? Happens constantly.

Er.. no. Should have said *frequently*. A few times a day. Ah, that is really interesting. I'll have to experiment to confirm. Hm, yeah it does seem to happen when the battery is low more often. In fact, I used to think it was just the low battery sound. But then I started realizing it makes...

Just replaced the screen assembly, but it's still black

Took it in to a pro, he confirmed bad LCD screen. There was also some water damage he cleaned. (He said it would be a free diagnosis, then he bait & switched me and charged for the cleaning I didn't authorize. >:-[ Annoyed. ) Weird thing is that the screen wouldn't work at all until he fixed...

How do they know my N5 isn't from the Google Play store? Can I get around this?

I thought all Nexus 5's were created equal. Apparently I was wrong. I got a used Nexus 5 that was from T-Mobile. I wanted to sign up with Ting, which says they support the Nexus 5, (ting.com/shop/nexus5) but apparently that's only if you got it from the Google Play store (or Sprint, I think)...

Nexus 5 Google Play vs T-Mobile version what is the difference?

Re: Nexus 5 Google Play vs T-Mobile version Unfortunately, there is a difference. Maybe the software/hardware is identical, but what network you can use the phone on comes into play. Some carriers won't let the phone in on their network. I got a Nexus 5 that's from T-Mobile and tried to...

What does the "sad drums" notification mean? Happens constantly.

I'm pretty sure a screenshot won't help in this situation. ;) It isn't an app because all Nexus devices make the same sound--my Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7 and Nexus 5. No one here has ever noticed this sound??? Or do you have other Android phones?

Just replaced the screen assembly, but it's still black

I had a phone with a cracked screen & screen was black and not working. Was able to verify that the phone itself worked fine. I replaced the screen assembly but before gluing it in, I wanted to make sure it works... but it's not working! Phone boots up and makes sounds, LED blinks, but the...

What does the "sad drums" notification mean? Happens constantly.

It's three drum beats that go down. At first I thought it meant the phone was running out of battery or that it got disconnected from a charger, but it does it all the time, not just when it's low on battery or getting unplugged. What does it mean!?

Do carriers install bloatware on the Nexus 5? Can they delay upgrades?

I ask because I got the Galaxy Nexus hoping for a pure Google Android experience, but it was through Verizon and they did all this idiotic crap, disabling Google Wallet, blocking OS upgrades for months... I swore I'd never buy another phone from Verizon. Now I'm looking for a used N5, (going to...
