Did you ever find a solution? My Turbo 2 does not like Hangouts at all either. As I type, it just freezes and I stare at it for long periods of time until it can catch up. No other issues with any other app when it comes to typing. I even tried different keyboards, which didn't help at all.

Thanks! Yes this feature is now on the Verizon S3 update... You can turn the tabs on and off by using the bottom left menu bottom while in the phones settings menu.
