Actually in a correction to my previous statement per this article, Sprint will need to upgrade their base stations, but this is already well underway as it is a part of their Network Vision project.

I don't think many people realize that HD Voice isn't as much a network feature as it is a device feature. According to the link below, HD Voice will even work on 2G networks once they've been upgraded to 1xRTT-Advanced. As long as both phones have the feature built-in, it should work. In fact...
