i was stupid i purchased a sim unlock code and it wont prompt for code US block RIGHT?

i want to make my photon 4g accept a tmobile sim card how do i so this with a u.s. phone could i root and modify the radio to then let me enter a sim unlock code or is there another way around unlocking?
