I sounds like my biggest issue is that I can't seem to download a decent file that passes the MD5 checksum. I'm downloaded 3 times now and haven't gotten a good file. Unless I"m doing that wrong as well.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to follow the guide to get back to stock, so I'm up and running again at least. Will re-attack the rooting shortly.

So I am verifying the checksum of the original *.zip file (hboot_2.xx_soff-vs.zip), is that correct?

So I was following this guide for rooting my EVO and got all the way to the part where I reboot, it checks the new PC36IMG.ZIP, and starts installing. I got a Fail-PU for the radio and then a Bootloader Fail-IC. Which means I basically can't get into anything other than the recovery screen...
