I'm in exactly the same situation ... I now have three corners that are failing and am concerned it will peel all the way off. I love this device and want it to last as long as possible!

Thanks a bunch for the careful thought out response(s) ... I'll pull down the 4.3 and 'hopefully' OTA will catch me back to 4.4.2. Once I get there I can root with TowelRoot and turn off / freeze the updates, etc.

I've found that SamMobile has the 4.3 file available (N900AUCUBMI9). Is that what I'll need to start with using ODIN? ... It's beginning to look like there is no stock 4.4.2 firmware available because it was OTAon ? If I ODIN back to 4.3 then I'll be prompted for the OTA to start moving up?

Check any "Go" apps you have installed. I uninstalled Go SMS Pro and mine is gone now ... I read others like Go Weather, etc. were also a problem ...

In my case it was Go SMS Pro. Been (was) using it for a long time and never had an issue. Google Play reports it was updated on 1 Apr2016 - I certainly don't see ANY notification in there that this crap was being added! I've taken it out and no more problem ... Now I'm looking for a new text...
