I don't know if this will be possible in the short-term considering the fact that the NFC functionality of the Galaxy Nexus is built into the battery. Even if a third-party manufacturer ends up making a battery, I have a feeling that it would not provide the NFC functionality...at least not any...

I've been testing/reviewing a device for a blog, and in the one week I have had the device, It has shut down/frozen on me five times. Twice just today!! It required a battery pull each time! One of the times today after restarting it, it wouldn't even get a connection... I had to reboot it one...

Agreed, there are usually other things at play that cause issues for users. I really do think that word "fragmentation" is used too often and usually incorrectly. I actually got the chance to write an article for a blog recently and think some things that I said might be appropriate here...
