Its annoying, but the fix is, you have to open the mail app. It happens for all e-mail accounts for me. Once I open the mail app and the notifications are cleared, they don't return. It's as if the notifications aren't syncing correctly with the mail app. Weird.

For me - notifications will continue to increase the count if I don't open the mail app. Once I open the mail app, they begin to synchronize with what actually comes in. I have my Exchange for work synced up on my phone and when I receive a new e-mail, it'll continue to notify me until I open...

Is it possible you have the SVoice on? I have power saving mode on as well - Not sure if you have that on/off. There was a setting that I can't seem to find where if I recall right (Maybe it's in google now) that it listens for you to talk to it - that could also drain battery. No guarantees...
