It happens on stock and 3rd party messaging apps. I noticed it's doing it after placing a call as well. I'm on AT&T by the way.

I am experiencing this as well. I managed to snap a screenshot of it. I have reached out to htc and they have provided me with many failed attempts as to explain what this is and why its happening. It's pretty weird and frustrating. Seems to be happening on the m7 and m8 devices. What is this?

Hey I was recently having the same issue and it was driving me nuts. I spoke to htc customer support and they had me do a soft reset. Hold power button until phone restarts itself and then release it. So far so good. I'm hoping it stays that way and it helps you guys. Super annoying I know.
