Hey, I had an S2 myself, and it also has really bad battery life. I think the problem is that the battery is getting old. After a certain number of discharge cycles, the amount of charge the phone will hold changes drastically. I bought a new battery, and now the battery life is a lot better.

There's a little button in the menu that can turn off data usage. Just leave your WiFi on at all times and leave the data off, and you'll be fine. Leaving it on airplane mode will turn off everything -- even voice.
