Same problem here, loved that feature. I wish I can uninstall Oreo, sigh. Anyway, the following is a poor substitute, as I would prefer it on the "always on display", but I ended up downloading the "Calendar Notify" app, which shows your upcoming events on your lock screen. I still wish...
