    you have to have data plan on it. voice should work.

    Hotspot?

    that is why i purchased from UK. imei number not in tmobile's system. hotspot is working great. who knows if tmobile USA will disable hotspot when they offer it. we may have gotten away with it with the NS, but with gnex, who knows.
