The team black hat patch works like a charm, I've used in on liberty ginger bread. 8, .7 and. 6 as well as stock (albeit rooted) .596. As for stability, a reboot fixes all after you finish, and I find that acceptable.

I highly reccomend android overclock. I have not tried the other one, but android over lock is great. Plenty of both advanced and basic options, it has warnings built in if you could possibly push the limits too far, has tons of extras and great dev support.
