What does the sim touch? The motherboard. So still likely the motherboard is the culprit not the SIM.

This was TOTALLY the issue. I've spent countless hours trying to find a fix and sure enough it was only enabled for location and crashed on everything else. Thank you thank you thank you!

Sorry bro, but I don't think it's software. If several people here are saying they had the motherboard replaced and it fixed it (under warranty) why would rooting and installing a custom ROM fix it? Mind you I already did the same as you did and it did NOT fix it for me. I replaced the screen...
