Same issue happened to me but settings like you mentioned, it worked for me.

Re: how do i fix my messaging? Send a black text to yourself. This will check the sending as well as receiving capability of your phone and you will be able to know where does the problem lies.

Almost all of the smart phones are suffering from same issue of less backup time. One such reason is the use of heavy apps that use to run on the phone and keep on using the processing power along with the battery of the mobile.

Re: Going back to Windows phone. Windows phones added something to the life of its users but I think still have to compete a lot to bring up its apps and results up to the level of android phones.
